PRESENTATIONS
Patchwork is a technique of cutting and sewing small pieces of fabric creating larger textiles. However, the idea of joining diverse fabrics together and creating completely new designs, has not only inspired quilters and textile artists but also furniture designers. These are some of the most interesting examples that apply the philosophy of patchwork into furniture making.
- Commode by Entwurf-Direkt. According to the creators the design of these objects is basically an antidesign as its respective shape is a result of putting together the findings as they come along. This can be compared to a remix done with pieces of music or else a collage as found in the arts. Each piece of furniture is a unique specimen, as they depend on the findings that are not available in unlimited numbers.
Patchwork involves sewing together pieces of fabric into larger designs. Patchwork textiles are used extensively in home decoration, for example in quilts, wall hangings, cushions, curtains, rugs, table mats, etc. They are also used in furniture upholstery resulting in stunning and eye-catching pieces of furniture.
Benches
- Bench Peacock Patchwork by Kare design. A highly decorative bench created by different patchwork fabrics with shimmering colours. Materials:Mango wood, cotton, foam upholstery.
Carlo Dal Bianco reimagined a table conceived in 1968 by designers Arne Jacobsen, Bruno Mathsonn and mathematicial Piet Hein. The latter created a new shape for this piece, somewhere between an ellipse and a rectangle, and called it a superellipse. The work of the architect and designer Carlo Dal Bianco seeks to integrate mosaic within this design icon without altering its form or its section. He therefore thought of inserting within the table surface a design that did not imitate its geometry and by using the logo of the studio he added, within a hint of ambition, his signature as the fourth designer.
Formae by Colombo design is a series of handles and knobs, ideal for any custom made project, home restyling and do-it-yourself decoration. The innovative design of the handles and knobs add personality and character to any piece of furniture. Some of them have minimal and strict geometric style while others are more playful and curved.
- The coffee table Bordus / Designer Ola Giertz . It is a "twisted" coffee table with two sides pointing in different directions. The inspiration came from the different angles that you can see in Stealth aircrafts, making it difficult for radars to detect the aircrafts effectively. Materials: Solid ash joined together in a dovetail with walnut-pieces.
