Reader's question:
"I need some help on designing the floorplan of my bathroom. The room is narrow (3,00X1,50m). The door is at the narrow side of the bathroom. There is also a small window, opposite to the door. I want to place the washing machine inside the bathroom. I also prefer a shower than a bath"
Reader's question:
“I have a 6 years old son and I am planning to renovate his room. I have already purchased the bed, the bookcase, the office, the drawer and an office chair, all in discount. The chair has Mickey Mouse patterns. The furniture are natural oak with orange details. My first concern is that the room will look girly or will have a baby style. I want your opinion on the colors and on how to decorate the room with a theme (pirate theme).”
Our answer:
Orange is a light and intense color and is neither for girls nor for boys. So, the room won't look girly.
If the space is light enough you can use a darker color. An excellent choice is a dark blue tone. So we propose you the following color scheme.
- Paint the walls grey (a light tone)
- Highlight a large surface by painting it blue (a dark tone)
- Add orange details (you already have the furniture)
The dark blue is the color of the deep ocean and will harmonize the power and intensity of the orange. You can build on this color to create a pirate theme. For example you can arrange on the wall, several decals with pirate figures, ships, flags or place a large treasure map in the center of the wall. In the market you'll find plentyof wall decals.
Further, you can add decorative items, like a pendant light, pillows, sheets inspired by pirate stories and legends.

Reader's question:
"What is the ideal height for the kitchen countertop? I am a tall person and I find uncomfortable working in a worktop of 900mm height. Can I raise the kitchen worktop?"
Reader's question:
"In the living room there is an operable window that connects the living room with one of our bedrooms. The window opens to the bedroom. How can I camouflage the window in the living room?
Our answer:
In interior architecture every problem can act as a challenge to create something unique. In your case, the window could be camouflaged and at the same time remain operable allowing the natural ventilation of the bedroom. We propose you the following solutions:
A: Design a unique piece of furniture that will incorporate and hide the window
In front of the window you can place a piece of furniture with sliding doors to allow the natural ventilation of the bedroom, like for example a bookcase or a bar countertop.
B: Place a panel for artwork or for the TV
In front of the window you can place a wooden panel. The panel should have some distance from the wall (about 10-15 cm) to allow natural ventilation of the bedroom. Over the panel you can hang artwork or the TV.
