Reader’s question
"I am renovating a 70’s apartment in Plaka district, Athens. I am thinking of unifying the kitchen with the living room. I am facing a dilemma; should I keep the original kitchen cabinets and countertop with marble sink or replace them with cheap and neutral new ones and blend them with a beloved vintage showcase to maintain the spirit?"
Our recommendation
We would like to mention that today's trends are again turning to previous decades’ retro style.
Apart from fashion we believe that a kitchen from the 70s has aesthetic value that no contemporary cheap and neutral one has. Its authentic morphology and all memories that have accumulated in the area over time give a character and style, that you cannot keep it only by the presence of the showcase in a modern kitchen.

The marble sink makes a strong presence with the dynamics of the material is made.
You should restore all the elements that need repairing and give a modern touch using decorative elements to achieve a vivid, modern revival of the space avoiding that the space will exude a museum feel.
