Reader’s question
"Could you give us some ideas on how to arrange our furniture in the living room and what paint colors to choose for the walls?
The walls in our living room are painted in two shades of gray. Unfortunately, the atmosphere is not at all what we would like to be, i.e. a warm, sweet, friendly, cheerful, welcoming one that beautifully blends with the furnishings. We have a gray sofa, purple glass coffee table and walnut dining table with brown upholstered chairs. The curtains are in shades of purple, pink, gray and a very pale shade of ice. We have attached a floor plan of our space. We would like the living room set to be near the fireplace. We greatly appreciate your advice".
Data analysis
Your L-shaped space is quite spacious. Gray walls need a warm bright color to be combined with, so as a pleasant atmosphere to be created.
Light color curtains and beige marble floor can be paired with dark or even bright colors in some elements of the space.
Our recommendation
We arrange the living room set in front of the fireplace, as it is the appropriate location. We place the two sofas in L-shape arrangement.
The dining area is arranged next to the living area. Focal point of the space is the fireplace which is flanked by the drywall construction. This focal point should be emphasized by a strong warm paint color, combined with the rest elements of the space.Additionally we suggest gray-brown rugs for the living and dining area.
Option 1
You can paint dark brick red copper color the recesses in drywall construction, so as the fireplace with the shelves to come out.
Option 2
You can paint the fireplace in a dark shade of purple. Both color selections blend harmoniously with the rest colors of the room.NoticeYou can hang similar curtains on glass doors to unify the space.
