Reader's question: 

I renovate my apartment. The kitchen and living room are combined. The flooring is dark   brown  laminate (it has a rustic appearance). In the living room there is a wall, 6 meters long and I am planning to place a large and high piece of furniture (something like a bookcase) with the TV. The cabinet doors of the kitchen will be white. The apartment is north and there two balcony doors (the openings of the doors are 2 meters and 1 meter). However I am afraid that the natural light will not be sufficient and the room will be dark. Can you give me some advice on the wall colors."

The walls will function as a background where in front you can to add colorful details like colurful draperies, rugs, decorative items, etc. Some tones that could match well to your space (where the light might be insufficient and the flooring dark) are:
