What can I do with the niches beside the fireplace?

Our answer:

A good idea would be to lower the ceiling with gypsum boards and to create a step. In each on the recesses you could place a spotlight.

The step (40cm high) can be used as a seat with pillows, or as a storage place for woods. You can also consider constructing shelves for books and decorative items.

In relation to the color choices, we suggest to paint the two recesses white and the fireplace a darker and warm color.
