Study, design and analysis of a bed that fulfills and covers as utilitarian product all the basic needs of a person from infancy to adolescence.
By Mimidis Theodoros (Wood & Furniture Designer & Technologist ), Karditsa 2010.
Graduation project for the Department of Wood & Furniture Design and Technology/ Technological & Educational Institute (TEI) of Larissa, based in Karditsa, Greece.
The idea of a flexible bed which could fulfill & cover all the basic needs of a person throughout the entire duration of the infancy and childhood aims to provide solutions such as:
- Saving money for consumers. A problem which is generated as well as the development of children compels parents to buy 2 or 3 beds during the childhood.
- The safe use of the product (by a kid) in accordance with current legislation (especially at younger ages).
- Green design, achieved by: a) using ecologically and environmentally friendly materials and production methods, b) the fact that the consumer buys one instead of three beds reduces the unnecessary exhaustion of raw materials in 25-35% of the current situation.
The sections of the project are:
- The detailed description of the product, the initial targets for the new product and the current legislation on the product's safe use.
- A market research relating to: a) baby cots - cribs, b) toddler beds, c) youth beds & d) flexible beds which are convertible from crib to toddler bed or toddler to youth bed etc.
- The conclusions of the market research and the new targets that are established for the new product.
- The initial ideas via sketches and drawings and the selection of the final concept.
- The development of the selected concept to final design - product (functional and aesthetic improvement).
- The analysis of the final concept via technical - constructional and photorealistic drawings using CAD & 3D Software.
- The final conclusions.
