DESIGN

The hanging lamp Bau (the word bau in German means construction), designed by Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmid, seams like a 3d installation or a sculpture, that plays with light, color and geometry. 

The design idea is simple: a set of interlocking pieces of different colors and shapes connected with each other (like a 3d puzzle) in horizontal and vertical directions. 

Although, the pattern is the same (wooden circles) however the final composition is “puzzlingly” asymmetrical. 

Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmid as a designer has experimented with geometry objects and architecture. She believes that decoration can become an integral part of functional things and furniture and not just of decorative objects. 

The hanging lamp Bau was designed, to arouse curiosity and to motivate the observer to explore the lamp from multiple pointing views.

Finalt, Bau is a DIY object demanding from the user the assemblage of its interlocking pieces.
