“Not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that can be counted counts”. Albert Einstein.
For most people time is considered very important as it passes very quickly!
In a constantly changing world, the people's need to perceive the passage of time led them to devise ways and instruments for measuring time. Clocks can be considered one of the oldest human inventions.
As time passes and technology evolves there are many different types of clocks: analogue and digital clocks, house clocks and watches etc.
House clocks can be classified into several types: wall / table / grandfather clocks, different styles (vintage, retro, minimalist) clocks, handmade (DIY) clocks.
Analog / digital clocks
Analog clocks can be driven either mechanically or electronically with pointers for hours and minutes. Traditional analog clocks work with spring-driven mechanism and need tuning.
Digital clocks display hours, minutes and seconds with a pair of digits. They also show the day and date.
House clocks
We place clocks in different places in our homes not only to show the time, but also they can accent the existing décor of the space.
A clock can have equal and possibly even greater decorative value than a mirror or other decorative items in a specific position, as it may be the main decorative element in a room.
Clocks are usually placed in certain places in the house (hallway, living room, and kitchen), while in others they should be avoided (bedrooms, bathrooms). Of course they should be placed in the best position.
Wall clocks
Oversized wall clocks can take over a large portion of the wall or the entire wall, or they can be placed on the mantel or behind a couch or a buffet.
Practically there are numerous ideas to decorate a blank wall with a large wall clock or a composition of several smaller ones.
Table clocks
Table clocks add a splash of color and vibrancy to the home decor. They are smaller but if placed on the appropriate piece of furniture they can be a strong decorative element that attributes to the style of a room.
Grandfather clocks
Floor clocks (Grandfather type) revoke memories of childhood fairy tales. They are not common enough as they require a lot of space.
In a spacious floor clocks are the reference point, as they seem to welcome the guests, while their melodies can resonate around the house or keep silent.
They can also be placed in an empty corner of the living room to draw attention with their retro aesthetic.
There is also the modern version of grandfather clocks for lovers of modern and contemporary design.
DIY clocks
Use your imagination and convert old or obsolete objects into unique clocks. You can use rectangular empty metal tin cans (for tea, honey, coffee, etc.), vinyl records, wood pieces, dishes, retro fabrics in embroidery hoops etc.
Buy the clock mechanism and enjoy the process of making your own unique clocks!
