Adults consider that the color selection for residential spaces requires a lot of thinking, as beyond their personal preferences they take into account various practical concerns, such as the cost and combinations with the other elements of the space. They also believe that wall-painting cannot be done often, so they try to pick paint colors for a long time. However, children have no concerns about the cost or the color combinations.
The main issue is that children change their mind easily; for example they may convince you to paint their room a bright lime green shade, and a few months later they change their minds. Moreover, themed bedrooms, such as Barbie, Winnie, can attract children's enthusiasm, but in a short time the child may consider the room decoration "childish" and would like to replace it.
Children are therefore difficult customers. They have a strong opinion on choosing clothing, activities and of course the decoration of their personal space.
Before starting a conversation with them on how to paint their room and before choosing a paint color, you should read the tips below.
• Select a monochromatic color scheme avoiding wall coverings with complex designs or murals
Today, children have so many things, such as toys, books, decorative items, souvenirs, posters, etc., that a multiple color scheme or complex wallpaper or even a mural are not necessary in a kid’s bedroom. However, if you like to use two colors on the walls you should consider creating stripes.
• Avoid choosing bold and striking colors and try to create a neutral color palette on the walls
Children are occasionally impressed by bright colors, such as lime green, pink, bright orange, deep blue, yellow, etc. However, you should consider children like color on the walls but also on fabrics and decorative items. It is therefore preferable to choose a neutral color on the walls to serve as background.
• Spice up details
Since the walls are a neutral color, you can select fabrics brightly colored or patterned. You can also choose colorful pillows, poufs and pendant light.
• Select wall stickers
Children are often influenced by television characters and fashion icons and prefer themed bedrooms with characters, such as Barbie, Winnie the Pooh, SpongeBob. Wall stickers are a cheap and practical solution to add a bit of color and pattern on the walls. They are easily applied and removed, which means that you can often change their themes.
• Pay attention when choosing carpeting or the rug
Although the walls are recommended to be painted neutral colors, you should not consider the same color scheme regarding carpeting or the rug. This means that you can go for colorful patterned carpeting. After all, children love to play on the floor and they are often "travelling with their minds" into the carpet patterns.
• Select frames with changeable content
Frames are a necessary complement as they add color on the walls. It is preferable to choose frames that you can replace the content by yourself. For example, you can display into frames photos, children's drawings, posters, dried flowers, cards, birthday invitations, refreshing the kids’ bedroom.
