Reader’s question
"I am in the process of purchasing furniture. The problem is that the open plan living dining room is long and narrow and I have difficulties in furniture placement. I have attached a plan of the space, I hope to be helpful! I would like your help in order to create a functional and stylish space. I am thinking of placing a three-seater sofa with two armchairs in front of the large window. In front of the fireplace I would like a sectional, opposite the TV, which will be placed next to the fireplace, and maybe an ottoman bench in front of the sofa. The dining area seems to be the easiest for placing furniture. Thanks and I am looking forward to your reply! "
Our recommendation
We propose two organizing solutions for your space. In both suggestions the living/dining area location remains the same, while we suggest two different furniture arrangement in the living area.
A. The three-seater sofa is placed perpendicular to the balcony door and opposite we place two armchairs. This sofa placement integrates the living area with the rest of the space, allows watching TV from the sofa while from the sectional in front of the fireplace one can see the view through the large window.
B. The three-seater sofa is placed opposite the window and two armchairs are placed at a corner. In this case, the living room is isolated from the rest of the space.
Opposite the fireplace we place a sectional with an ottoman and adjacent to the kitchen we arrange the dining area.
The circulation paths in the space are about 80-90cm wide, allowing comfortable movement. Besides, they can expand when needed to become wider by moving furniture aside.
