"I have a white ash chest of drawers. How could I repaint it?”
Our recommendation
You can update furniture pieces with a coat of paint; they will get a fresh new look.
A step-by-step repaint process is as follows:
- Remove any hardware from the piece (knobs, hinges, etc.).
- Start sanding with fine (220 grit) sandpaper to remove old paint before applying the new paint.
- Remove any dust by rubbing preferably with a damp cloth.
- For best results, brushing in the direction of the grain, apply a thin coat of primer and let dry.
- When the primer is dry, apply the first coat working also in the direction of the wood grain.
- On the next day apply a second layer.
- When dry it is ready for use.
Tips
- Prefer eco-friendly paints
- Follow the paint manufacturer's directions
- Avoid application at low or high ambient temperatures (<10°C,> 35oC)
- Avoid high humidity (> 55%)
- When painting, you must ensure that there is proper ventilation
