Reader’s question
"I need your help on what paint colors to pick for the walls of my open plan living room kitchen. I have decapé gray-white kitchen cabinets and beige tile backsplash. The fireplace is painted in beige shades and the aluminum French doors are green color"
Our recommendation
There are many color options; however, the final choice depends on your needs, preferences and the features of the area (lighting, room dimensions, furniture layout, etc).
As we don’t have more information and we do not have pictures of the place, we suggest three options to select, which one suits your space.
• Solution 1: Paint all the walls a neutral, bright color
If you want to achieve a simple and severe look, you can paint all the walls the same color. A good choice would be white or off-white color with pops of color on cushions, rugs, or other decorative elements.
• Solution 2: Visually divide the open space using different colors
Choose two different colors and paint one color the living room and the other color the kitchen. If the place is dark and small choose light colors. An interesting combination would be light green (for the living room), a calm and both dynamic color that creates feelings of relaxation and beige (for the kitchen.
• Solution 3: Accent one wall with a deep dark color
Paint the walls a neutral, light color (for example, off-white/beige/light gray) and accent one wall a deep and strong color. Some interesting choices are berry color and rotten apple color.
