Reader's question:
"I am planning to buy an appartment and I am wondering whether the parking space will have the minimum size for easy entry and exit of my car. So, what is the minimum size of a car-parking space?
Our answer
According to the book Architect's data by Ernst and Peter Neufert "Garage parking spaces for cars should have an overall length of more than 5m and a width of 2.30m. Parking spaces for the disabled should be more than 3.50m wide"
However it is not so simple. The minimum length and width of a car-parking space depends from several factors but mainly:
- From the angle of the parking (parallel to the road, 45o, 60o, 90o, etc)
- From the width of the road
Of course, it depends from the size of the car.
Parking parallel to the road
Option 1: Parking space 2,50X5,50m / road width= 3,00m
Option 2: Parking space 2,00X5,50m / road width= 3,50m
90o oblique parking
Option 1: Parking space= 2,25X4,50m / road width = 5,40m
Option 2: Parking space= 2,70X4,50m / road width = 4,50m
45o oblique parking
Option 1: Parking space= 2,25X4,50m / road width = 3,00m
Option 2: Parking space= 2,50X4,50m / road width = 2,75m
60o oblique parking
Option 1: Parking space= 2,25X4,50m / road width = 3,75m
Option 2: Parking space= 2,50X4,50m / road width = 3,50m
30o oblique parking
Option 1: Parking space= 2,25X4,50m / road width = 2,50m
