Reader’s question
"I would be so grateful for your advice on how to place my furniture in the living room. The dimensions are 3.80x5.80m. On the narrow side there a balcony door in the center flanked by small windows on each side. On the opposite right corner there is the fireplace. On the right long side perpendicular to the fireplace is a wall 2m long and the 2.50m opening to the kitchen. On the left long wall opposite the kitchen opening there is a window similar to the ones flanking the glass door. How to arrange a corner sofa, a TV furniture combo or whatever piece of furniture you think I could place and what color scheme to choose?"
Our recommendation
Furniture arrangement
We have made a realistic 3D render of your space according to your description.
In the first option we place the corner sofa facing the fireplace and the openings. On the wall adjacent to the fireplace we recommend to put the TV combo.
In the second option, we place the corner sofa with its back to the openings facing only the fireplace and on the narrow side, we place the TV combo.
Due to the symmetrical position of the openings on the narrow side, we suggest a symmetrical placement of furniture under the windows.
The pieces of furniture we suggest can be either a couple of tables or low bookcases, or two chests of drawers. In front of the balcony door you can place two armchairs with a coffee table, or a bench ottoman, which can alternatively be moved near the fireplace and increase the number of seating positions.
Color scheme
We have no information on the colors and materials in the space, such as the kind of the openings, of flooring and also if you are going to paint the walls in order to suggest a harmonious color scheme.
Therefore we will suggest some harmonious color combinations.
For the walls we suggest a reddish white – beige shade and for the fireplace teal paint color. For the fabrics we suggest taupe color or dark beige and walnut wood combined with white lacquer. The fabrics can be plain or striped in shades of these colors. These combinations go well with wooden floor or floor tiles in similar shade.
