Reader’s question
"I am remodeling the bedroom of my son who has recently moved out. I would like to turn it into a guest room. However, I would like to incorporate an office area, in case my son comes back. Could you give me some decorating ideas? I would like to have iroko wood floor, iroko interior door and white lacquer wardrobe with sliding doors. I have attached a dimensioned sketch plan to help you. Could you help me with the furniture placement? What kind of curtains to choose? Thank you in advance and I'm looking forward to your advice"
Our recommendations
Based on your description, today the bedroom has no longer a specific purpose. However, it is important occasionally to accommodate guests and to be convertible into a main bedroom at the same time.
We suggest transforming it into a "hybrid" room that can serve multiple functions, such as living room, bedroom, guest room, office, etc.
The furniture arrangement we suggest is shown on the floor plan
The bed
Regarding the bed, we suggest placing a single bed at one corner of the room away from the door. Instead of one headboard, the bed can have two backs perpendicular to one another giving the sense of a comfortable couch. You can place a lot of pillows on the bed.
More pieces of furniture
Instead of bedside tables you can choose a coffee table. Place a bergere armchair by the coffee table and a floor lamp.
The office area
Opposite the door you can place a horizontal surface for writing and working. Above it you can place a mirror so you can use it as a makeup vanity. In case your son comes back, this area can be converted into an office desk. You can replace the mirror with shelving system, while in the corner you can mount a television set.
