Reader’s question:
"I renovate a small attic. In the attic there is one bedroom, a kitchen and a living room. The ceiling is wooden in light beige. The kitchen is small and narrow. The furniture is beige and white. Still, I am confused about the flooring options. I am between laminate flooring (to match with the wooden ceiling) and tile flooring (60 X60 cm white tiles). Which option is suitable? Also, what color to select the cabinet doors in the kitchen? What color to paint a wall in the attic?"
Our answer:
Flooring options: Both laminate flooring (in a similar tone and texture with the wooden ceiling) and tile flooring (white tiles) are interesting and appropriate options for an attic. Both materials will add a contemporary and clean look to the space.
However, most of the furniture is white and beige. So, the white flooring could result in a boring and a rather cold space. Hence, we would prefer the laminate flooring.
Laminate as a material is warm with interesting texture that can resemble the classic wooden flooring.
Door cabinets: For the kitchen, which is small and narrow, we recommend to select glossy cabinets in white or off-white color.
Wall color: Apparently in the attic there is a large wall that you are thinking of highlighting it with a paint color. The available choices are many and the final choice depends from your preferences and the style you want to achieve. Some options are:
- A fresh, vivid and youthful color like the blue sky or veraman color.
- An austere and neutral color like the gray
Though, you can paint all the wall surfaces white. After all, the ceiling and the flooring are already too eye-catching.
