The image below illustrates the clearance between two single beds. The largest the distance between the beds, the more comfortable the circulation and access to the beds.
If you are planning to use the space under the bed for storage, larger clearance should be provided. If there is a drawer under the bed, you should leave adequate space for both the drawer and the user in kneeling position.
If there is enough free space on one side of each bed, smaller clearance between the two beds could be allowed. There is no need for circulation between the two beds, only the placement of a bedside table in-between.
