Reader’s question
"We are renovating our house. We have straight grain doussie flooring. We would like to paint it using water based varnish. I was wondering if we should choose doussie veneered interior doors to match with the flooring or to prefer a different wood e.g. oak veneer. The house has a minimalist interior design. I need your help because I am so confused. Many thanks in advance."
Our recommendation
Doussie is a beautiful African wood, very hard and durable, which ranges from light brown to reddish-brown. Doussie wood floorings create a strong feeling of warmth due to the grain and the shade.
since you mentioned that the house is in a contemporary style, we suggest to move in white or light gray color shades for the internal doors avoiding any wood color. Thus, you will highlight your floor giving clean simple lines into the space and you will feel free to select whatever color palette for your furniture.
Doussie veneers would be difficult to have the same shade as the flooring and they create a look of exuberance into the space.
Natural oak could possibly combine with the flooring; however it could be binding in choosing the furniture color.
