Reader’s question
"I would like your advice on layout / color scheme for my living room. The room size is 3.10m wide by 4.10m long. On one long side there is a window with a radiator underneath and a window door near the kitchen. On the long wall adjacent to the kitchen is the entrance door. On the narrow wall opposite the kitchen there is the air conditioner. I want to arrange an orange 3-seater sofa, a dark brown square table, a TV stand, a bookcase and a dining set. I also want shades of green for the walls. Do they go with the orange sofa?"
Our recommendations
A. The space layout
The floor plan was made according to your description.
The space is relatively small; consequently a proper furniture layout will give a feeling of spaciousness.
The sofa is placed on the wall near the entrance door and opposite the windows.
We suggest placing the TV stand between the windows; its size depends on the distance between them.
In front of the balcony door we suggest to put a round dining set, because it occupies less space.
A bookcase is a bulky piece of furniture. That’s why you should place the bookcase on the far narrow wall. Choose a low bookcase occupying almost the entire wall.
B. The selection of the walls color
Orange is coming by mixing yellow and red in different ratios, creating different hues.
Bright orange tones add a pop style to the room; dark shades give warmth to the space.
You can combine orange with many shades of green (ranging from lime green to olive green and pistachio green) and also with the dark brown furniture and achieve a modern look in the living room.
