Most dining tables are made to standard measurements.
Standard dining table height:
The dining table has to be high enough so that there is enough clearance space between the top of the seat and the underside of the table for the sitting person to move the knees freely. Most dining tables are 28'' to 30'' (71-76 cm ) high, but the most adequate height is between 29'' to 30'' (73,5 to 76 cm).
Standard dining seat height:
The distance between the seat and the floor should allow on the one hand the foot of the sitting person to rest firmly on the ground and on the other to allow the sitting person to use the dining table (to reach the food, to feel comfortable etc). A seat height of 16'' to 17'' (40 to 41,5 cm) matches a standard dining table of 29'' to 30'' high (73,5 to 76 cm).
Standard difference in height between table and dining chair:
The clearance space between the top of the seat and underside of the table should be enough to rest the knees of the sitting people. The standard clearance space is 12' to 14''. The minimum clearance space is 7.5'' (19 cm).
