The size of the coffee table in the living room is equally important as its shape and style. The proper coffee table measurements (length and widht) depend mostly on:
- The size of the sofas
- The optimal conversation distance
The size of the sofa: If you have a long sofa, you probably think that you need a long coffee table. But how long the coffee table should be? A rule of thumb is that the coffee table should be approximately two-thirds the length of the sofa (and a little smaller that this).
The Optimal conversation distance between two people is between 215 and 300cm / 84’’ and 218’’. So, before purchasing an extra large coffee table, you should first think whether this table will hinder communication between seated people.
Coffee table Height: A coffee table is a low table having about the same height as the sofa seat or slightly lower. Thus, the coffee table becomes suitable to hold your beverages, snack plates, magazines, books or other small items you may need while seated.
